Thursday Field Trips

Attendees will choose between four field trips for Thursday. All trips will depart from the Benson Hotel and will end at Timberline Lodge on Thursday afternoon.

Sustainable Tourism
How do we promote tourism while protecting the places that people come to see?   We will examine this challenge using the majestic Columbia River Gorge and the alluring Hood River Valley as our classrooms.

Cultural Legacy
Explore the architectural heritage of Mt. Hood.  Visit places in Mt. Hood National Forest important to Native American culture and to the Euro-American pioneers that arrived here by wagon on the Barlow Trail.

Conservation Education
Discover how partner organizations work with the US Forest Service to inspire the next generation of watershed stewards.  Visit unique outdoor learning centers with award-winning education programs.

Natural Resource Protection and Restoration
Experience Mt. Hood’s lively rivers connect alpine glaciers to temperate forests.  Meet partners that help protect vital salmon habitat and provide clean drinking water.  See cooperative approaches for adapting to a changing climate.
